Ella Gray Ennis was born near Dunn, NC in 1925. She graduated from the Woman’s College (now UNCG) in 1945 with a degree in Grammar Grades Education. She eventually earned a PhD in physiology from UNC-CH and joined the Medical School faculty there, retiring after 16 years.
