HHS Student Leadership Program
Preparing undergraduate students from the School of Health and Human Sciences (HHS) for success after graduation through a variety of leadership, professional development, and networking experiences.
Eligibility
- Undergraduate students (one from each HHS department)
- Nominated by their departments
- Rising sophomore (exceptions may be considered on case by case basis)
- Minimum GPA of 2.7
- Able to participate in-person for the entire academic year (Fall 2025, Spring 2026)
- Networking and mentoring: Formal and informal mentoring events where you will connect with alumni, community partners, and others from UNCG
- Learn who you are as a leader: Participate in workshops and assignments to help you better understand your strengths
- Prepare for life after UNCG: Feel comfortable “working the room”, talking about your professional goals, and making decisions about next steps after graduation
- Serve as an ambassador of the School at events like Homecoming and SOAR
- Earn 1 credit each semester
- Practice professional communication, project management, and collaboration skills in real-life contexts
- Complete a project designed to address a need at UNCG
- Learn alongside a small cohort of peers
- Talk to your department chair or Director of Undergraduate Programs
- Submit interest form by February 21, 2025
- If selected, attend info session prior to the end of the semester and confirm your intent to participate

BETHANY ALLEN
Recreational Therapy
My most impactful experience was going to Jones Elementary and teaching kids about my field and about college, and hearing all of their future plans.
After graduation, my goal is to complete the accelerated master’s program in Community and Therapeutic Recreation at UNCG

LEAH FLIPPIN
Communication Sciences and Disorders
My most impactful experience from the Student Leadership Program was the mixer event. I was encouraged to step out of my comfort zone as well as to make connections.
I plan to work as a Speech Language Pathologist Assistant while obtaining a master’s degree in Speech Language Pathology

MALCOLM JOHNSON
Public Health Education w/ Concentration in Community Health Education and Minor in Sociology
I was able to have intentional conversations with my peers and our alumni network.
I aspire to be a health advocate for marginalized and underserved communities

TYLER MAYS
Nutrition – Human Dietetics
My biggest takeaway from the program is learning how to navigate professional events.
I plan to work as a Registered Dietician

LAH “SWEE” PAW
Early Childhood Education
The biggest takeaway from the SLP was learning how to step out of my comfort zone. It taught me confidence in leadership and communication.
I plan to work as a Speech Language Pathologist Assistant while obtaining a master’s degree in Speech Language Pathology

YARINEX RIVERA
Social Work and Peace and Conflict Studies
I have learned that leadership isn’t about titles, but it is about heart, effort, and the courage to show up for others and yourself.
I plan on going into Graduate School

Malachi Ward
Human Health Sciences, Minor: Chemistry
My biggest takeaway from the program is learning how to navigate professional events.
I plan on going to Dental school

A’MYAH WILSON
Public Health Education, pre-PA track
My biggest takeaway from the SLP has been the emphasis on connections and opportunities. As a sophomore, I now have access to a whole new level of individuals, and this program has prepared me to not just enter these spaces, but to truly thrive in them. I’ve realized that leadership is not just about what you know, but who you grow with.
After graduation, my goal is to attend PA school, Practicing PA specializing in OB/GYN
