Pacesetter: Dr. Lindsey R. Oakes, Ph.D., LRT, CTRS
Dr. Lindsey Oakes is a tenure-track Assistant Professor in the Recreational Therapy program in the Department of Recreation Sciences at East Carolina University. Dr. Oakes earned two degrees from UNCG: a Master’s of Science from Community and Therapeutic Recreation with a Therapeutic Recreation concentration and a Ph.D. in Public Health Education. Dr. Oakes has many peer reviewed publications and has received numerous awards related to her work. While at UNCG, she was instrumental in advancing the Beyond Academics program. She also serves as a senior associate for InFocus Advocacy, a nonprofit working to prepare people with disabilities as self-advocates, enhancing the image of people with disabilities, and creating inclusive communities.
