Ms. Underwood received a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics in 1977 from UNCG and completed the Dietetic Internship Program at the University of Alabama in 1978. Ms. Underwood is a highly regarded Nutrition Support Clinician. She is currently the Clinical Nutrition Manager of the Greensboro and Reidsville campuses of Cone Health System.

She has been a Registered Dietitian for 36 years and has worked for Cone Health for 28 years. She has always had a passion for acute care clinical nutrition, especially nutrition support. She is a Certified Nutrition Support Clinician. Debbie is a member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and the American Society of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition. She is currently the President of the Mid-Atlantic Chapter of A.S.P.E.N.

Debbie has been married to Harold for 34 years. They have 2 daughters, Megan, a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and Valerie, a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. In her spare time Debbie loves spending time with her family! She enjoys shopping with her daughters, golfing with Harold, watching college football and basketball and professional football and golf. Debbie is an avid Carolina Tar Heel fan!

Ms. Underwood generously serves as Site Director for the UNCG Dietetic Internship Program, volunteering nearly 1000 dietitian work hours annually to the teaching, training and mentorship of our dietetic interns.
