The School of Health and Human Sciences is closely monitoring the rapidly changing 2019 Novel Coronavirus situation in coordination with the University, including the Chancellor’s Office, Provost’s Office, Student Health, and UNCG Emergency Management.

This page will be updated as additional guidance becomes available.

The virus has been named “SARS-CoV-2,” and the disease it causes has been named “coronavirus disease 2019” (abbreviated “COVID-19”). While there are no confirmed cases at UNCG at this time, this is an unprecedented public health issue on a global scale. We must be proactive and do what is best for our students, our employees, and our extended community.

As previously announced on March 11, UNCG, in close consultation with emergency management and public health experts and the UNC System, will suspend classes beginning Monday, March 16, and transition to online classes beginning March 23, in order to help contain the novel coronavirus.

Given the uncertainty regarding the COVID-19 situation, it is prudent to prepare for a variety of challenging conditions. Please pay close attention to your email during this time and the main UNCG coronavirus resource page for ongoing information. It is important to stay informed, stay calm, and use appropriate techniques to reduce exposure.

The University has created several new resources for our community. Please visit KeepLearning.uncg.edu, KeepTeaching.uncg.edu, KeepWorking.uncg.edu, and KeepResearching.uncg.edu for comprehensive information and guides to the University’s support resources and tools that you may need to ensure instruction, research, and business continuity. Tiles for these resources are also available on the UNCG Mobile app.

The featured software, applications, tools, techniques, and other resources have been available to our faculty, staff, and students for some time, but they are now collected and organized in these new locations so that they are easier to access. Please visit these sites regularly as new tools and resources become available.

Information and recommendations continue to change quickly, please seek information from valid sources, such as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the World Health Organization.

Be aware that the seasonal flu continues to be common in our area. The same actions that help prevent the spread of the flu also help prevent the spread of COVID-19. These actions include:

  • Washing your hands for 20 seconds with soap and water or use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
  • Avoiding shaking hands.
  • Disinfecting frequently touched objects using a regular household cleaning spray or wipe.
  • Staying home when you are sick and avoid close contact with those who are sick.
  • Avoiding touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.

As a reminder for faculty and staff, if you are ill, please communicate with your physician and do not come to work unless cleared to do so.
