My primary research interests focus on parenting, parent-child relationships, and early normative and atypical development from a biopsychosocial developmental perspective. These topics include:
- The contextual, relational, psychological, and biological factors influencing parental sensitivity and harshness in early childhood,
- The familial and biological predictors of emotional and regulatory development in early childhood, and how these processes support adaptive and maladaptive behaviors over time,
- The emergence of early onset conduct problems, oppositional defiance behaviors, and callous-unemotional behaviors in children, and
- The transition to parenthood among same-sex couples and risk and resiliency in families headed by lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender parents.
