Online Master of Education Program
This Master of Education (M.Ed.) program prepares students to assume leadership roles in diverse settings (both education and community-based) that develop and implement programming for young children with and without disabilities, ages birth to five, and their families. The degree consists of a minimum of 37 semester hours of graduate course work beyond the Bachelor’s degree. This degree is a fully online synchronous program with classes meeting online using web cameras and microphones. Class meetings are from 5:00 to 6:50pm. Experienced and committed faculty members from the Departments of Human Development and Family Studies and Specialized Education Services teach, advise, and mentor students through this innovative course of study.
What does UNCG’s MEd Program Offer?
- We have a proven track record! We have four years of experience delivering an online M.Ed. program.
- Most of our online courses are delivered in a synchronous virtual classroom format. Thus, classes meet once a week using webcams and headsets to discuss the course content.
- Our M.Ed. is interdisciplinary. Faculty from both the Department of Specialized Education Services and the Department of Human Development and Family Studies teach the courses.
- Our program has a developmental, early childhood focus.
- Our faculty are leaders in their fields—policy, practical experience, international experience, inclusion of ALL children, including children with disabilities
- Our graduates are prepared to be employees in a variety of professions.
- In this M.Ed. there are two areas of emphasis—one on Early Childhood Leadership & Program Administration and another on Early Childhood Leadership & Advanced Teaching Licensure.
Admission Requirements: Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree in early childhood or a related field and an undergraduate GPA of at least 3.0 for admission. Applicants to the advanced licensure emphasis must have an initial teaching license.
Application Deadline: Applications completed before January 12, 2019 will receive highest priority. All materials must be received by February 1, 2019 in order to be considered for Fall 2019 admission. Applications received after that date will not be reviewed.

- The Early Childhood Leadership and Program Administration emphasis equips teachers, directors/administrators, technical assistance providers, and other professionals working closely with early childhood educators to be leaders in the field.
- The Early Childhood Leadership and Advanced Teaching Licensure emphasis is designed for students seeking education in early childhood leadership and an advanced teaching license. It is expected that all admitted students to this emphasis have general teaching competencies and hold an initial B-K teaching license or an initial teaching license in another field of education.

The University of North Carolina at Greensboro is a participating institution in both the National Council for State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements (NC-SARA) and North Carolina’s portal agency, State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements North Carolina (SARA NC). Participation in SARA allows institutions to provide online courses outside of their own state borders.
Completion of the UNCG Birth through Kindergarten on-line program meets higher education requirements for teaching licensure in North Carolina.
