SOCIAL WORK

School of Health and Human Sciences

Costa Rica

In 2006, the Departments of Social Work and Human Development and Family Studies began a summer language and culture immersion in Costa Rica every other summer.

Beginning with Summer 2013, this program is sponsored by the School of Health and Human Sciences and is open to all HHS graduate and undergraduate majors.

Northern Ireland

The Department of Social Work and International Programs are sponsoring a trip to Northern Ireland during Spring Break, 2014.  Students and faculty will reside at Corrymeela International Peace Center and learn skills in dialogue and reconciliation from staff at the center.

In preparation for this experience, students will meet in seminar to learn the history and context of the “Troubles” in Northern Ireland and draw comparison to the Civil Rights struggle here in the United States.

Scotland

The UNCG Department of Social Work has a 25+ year exchange program with the University of Strathclyde School of Social Work and Social Policy. Every other year, a UNCG faculty member and a group of UNCG social work students go to Glasgow Scotland to study with social work students and faculty.

Other Opportunities

Also, through the UNCG International Programs Center (IPC) a UNCG student can study abroad for a semester or year. Financial aid can be applied to Study Abroad, and IPC is also able to provide travel grants to all UNCG students through its Endowment for International Programs.
