Greetings and welcome to the Department of Social Work and Gerontology Program at the University of North Carolina Greensboro! Our Department of Social Work has been accredited by the Council on Social Work Education since 1973 and we have the oldest and one of the largest BSW Programs in North Carolina.
We are also a part of a unique collaboration between a predominantly white institution (UNCG) and a Historically Black College and/or University, the North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University (NCAT), which is the first of its kind in the United States. This collaboration includes an MSW (established in 1997) and a PhD (established in 2019) graduate program, referred to as the Joint Programs in Social Work. In addition, the BSW Field Education Program is also a joint collaboration that has served both Programs for over 30 years.
As of Summer 2021, our Online Master of Science Degree in Gerontology Program was accredited by the Accreditation for Gerontology Education Council and continues to grow exponentially.
We are committed to ensuring diversity, equity, inclusion, and access for our students, faculty, and staff. We are fortunate to have faculty with various research, teaching, and community engagement interests, that all focus on a common goal of social justice as well as the core values of the social work profession. In the last 5 years, our Department has received over $5 million in external funding which has been used to support students by alleviating debt as well as meet the needs of the most vulnerable friends in and around our surrounding communities.
We would love the opportunity to connect with you to share more about our Programs as well as explore any possibilities of having you/your loved one as a student. Please feel free to contact me.
