Human Development and Family Studies

School of Health and Human Sciences

Admission to the department is a 2-step process. Students declare an HDFS major through the Registrar’s Office Change of Major/Minor Form. Once students have declared an HDFS major, they are called “Pre-HDFS” majors until they complete the process for Secondary Admission.

Instructions for Secondary Admission

Students may declare a major in the HDFS department at any time.*  When they do so, they will be categorized as “pre” majors in Degree Works.  In order to take upper level coursework and complete the degree, a student must be formally admitted to the HDFS major through the Secondary Admissions process.  Students must apply for Secondary Admissions based on their status as either a Main Campus student or an Online Student.

Main Campus students choose a concentration of CYFD (Child, Youth, and Family Development), ECED (Early Care and Education), or BKTL (Birth through Kindergarten Teacher Licensure).

Online students choose a concentration of either ECED (Early Care and Education) or BKTL (Birth through Kindergarten Teacher Licensure).

Students will be notified via email of their acceptance or denial into the program.
