School of Health and Human Sciences

CWHW Fellowships provide faculty with a one-course release each semester to lead an interdisciplinary research activity with a well-defined outcome that advances both the mission of the Center and their own scholarly interests.  The outcome does not necessarily have to culminate in an external grant submission or definitive research project.  Other examples are dedicated time for research training, developing community connections, building collaborations, performing a needs assessment, and collection of pilot data to support a future collaborative activities and grant submissions.

While any topic that addresses the Center’s Mission is welcome, we are particularly interested in topics that advance our current Research Priorities.

Appointment:  Fellow appointments can be for one academic year.  Appointments may be renewable for one additional year depending on the productivity of the collaboration and perceived impact of the additional work (a new application is required).

A $4000 stipend will be given to the home department in Fall and Spring semesters to cover a one course release from teaching each semester.  A stipend up to $4000 to support research activities or continued work in the summer is also available depending on proposed activities.  Funds to support research activities may also be obtained through ORE and HHS internal funding mechanisms.

  • Completion of the proposed work must be attainable within the specified period (not to exceed one year).
  • The proposed work must include intermediate milestones with success metric(s) to demonstrate progress toward project goals.
  • The fellow will meet regularly with the Center Director, and submit a mid-term progress report at the end of the first semester.  Second semester course release / funding is contingent on satisfactory progress (e.g., completion of intermediate milestones).
  • Disseminate final findings / outcomes at a CWHW event (e.g., research forum, CWHW speaker series, Core Advisory Team meeting).
  • Participation in Center activities during the time of their fellowship that are relevant to their project goals is also encouraged.
