- Official transcripts from every school at which you have college credit, even if you did not obtain a degree from that institution. A minimum overall GPA of 3.0 is required by the UNCG Graduate School. However, successful applicants to the CSD Master’s ON-CAMPUS Program in Speech-Language Pathology typically have an overall GPA of 3.7 or higher.

- Letters of recommendation: Three letters of recommendation must be submitted with each application. At least 2 of the letters must be academic and the 3rd may be academic or professional. Three academic letters are preferred unless the professional letter can provide information that relates to success in a graduate program. The Graduate School will send link to recommenders for submitting the reference after the applicant enters appropriate contact information.
- Personal Statement/Statement of Purpose: The statement of purpose must be a professionally written document that is double-spaced using 12-point font, 1-inch margins, and that is a maximum of 2 pages in length. This document should acquaint the CSD Admissions Committee with the applicant’s rationale for:
- Pursuing an advanced degree in speech-language pathology
- Choosing the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders at UNCG for this degree
- Unique skills or experiences that will facilitate excellence in graduate study
- Resumé: The resumé should be 1-2 pages in length, using a 12-point font, 1-inch margins and written in a professional style. It should only include information and experiences that have occurred since completing high school. The resumé should include the following information:
- Education
- Employment
- Relevant Experiences
- Honors/Awards/Recognition
- Additional skills (e.g. second language, CPR)
- Completion of CSD coursework: Students must submit a list of coursework taken to fulfill the content areas below. This list must include the name of the course, the credit hours and the semester in which the course was/will be completed. You should include classes that will be completed in the spring and summer prior to entering graduate school.
- Verification of 25 hours of observation: Prior to enrolling in the Master’s ON-CAMPUS Program in Speech-Language Pathology, students must observe at least 25 hours of treatment and/or assessment conducted by an ASHA certified SLP. These hours must be verified by the student’s undergraduate program. If these observations are to be completed after your application is submitted, but in the Spring or summer prior to entering the Master’s ON-CAMPUS Program in Speech-Language Pathology, please indicate how those hours will be obtained and verified.
- Essential Skills: In addition to the academic skills and experiences noted above, admitted students must be able to perform, unaided or with approved accommodations, the following essential skills developed by the Council on Academic Programs in Communication Sciences and Disorders:
- Critical thinking skills sufficient for clinical judgement
- Interpersonal skills sufficient for effective interaction with individuals, families and other professionals from a variety of cultural and linguistic backgrounds
- Effective written and spoken communication sufficient for successful interaction iwth individuals, families and other professionals
- Physical mobility sufficient for clinical activities regardless of setting
- Gross and fine motor abilities sufficient for successful use of instruments and materials used in evaluation and treatment
- Visual acuity sufficient for successful interaction with individuals, families, and other professionals throughout the assessment and treatment process
- Hearing sensitivity and auditory discrimination sufficient for successful interaction with individuals, families and other professionals throughout the assessment and treatment processes

For the past 5 years, we have averaged approximately 290 applicants per year with 27-32 students enrolled per year.
Due to the high interest in Speech-Language Pathology, it is not possible to grant individual interviews to each interested student. Therefore, group dates are scheduled each semester. Applicants are encouraged to visit the CSD Department on one of these dates to receive additional information regarding the academic and clinical aspects of the program. In addition, applicants have the opportunity to ask questions and to talk with current students. Please email csd@uncg.edu to register for an information session. Family and friends are welcome. The meetings are held on the third floor of the Ferguson Building. Parking is available on the street and at nearby campus parking decks.
For the past five years, the average overall GPA of admitted students is approximately 3.78, with average GRE scores at the 50%ile or higher for all three areas (verbal, quantitative, analytic).
All Master’s students must be enrolled as full-time students for 5 semesters (Fall1, Spring 1 Summer, Fall2, Spring2)
The curriculum for the Master’s ON-CAMPUS Program in Speech-Language Pathology is designed to meet the 2020 ASHA Certification Standards, as well as the requirements for licensure by the NC Board of Examiners in Speech—Language Pathology and Audiology and the NC Department of Public Instruction. All students will have sufficient clinical experiences to meet the requirements for ASHA certification and NC Board of Examiners’ licensure. During your first year, all of your clinical experiences will be on the UNCG Campus or at other sites in the Greensboro area. Some of the potential sites include

During your second year, you will be involved in externships at a wide variety of facilities. These include:

- Skilled nursing facilities
- Rehabilitation centers
- Public schools
- Special needs schools
- Private practices
- Early Intervention programs

Each year, the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders is awarded a limited number of tuition waivers and graduate assistantships. All students accepted into the Master’s ON-CAMPUS Program in Speech-Language Pathology are eligible for these and there is no separate application. We will let accepted students know as soon as possible, if they are receiving a GA position and/or a tuition waiver. In addition to tuition waivers and GAs, some scholarships are available through the School of Health and Human Sciences (uncg.edu/hhs/scholarship/) and the Graduate School (grs.uncg.edu/financial/scholarships/).
