Why become a “friend” of the Program for the Advancement for Girls and Women in Sport and Physical Activity (PAGWSPA)?
In the spring of 2010 the National Association for Girls and Women in Sport (NAGWS) chose the Center for Women’s Health and Wellness (CWHW) in the School of Health and Human Sciences (HHS) at University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG) as its university home. This new collaborative program housed in CWHW at UNCG was named the Program for the Advancement of Girls and Women in Sport and Physical Activity (PAGWSPA).
The goal of PAGWSPA is to advance sport and physical activity opportunities for all girls and women, through evidence-based scholarship and by provide continuing educational opportunities for all professionals who work with girls and women in sport and physical activity settings. Because we are housed in a university setting, we will continue to develop initiatives and programs in three specific areas: scholarship, education and service. Through collaborative efforts with the NAGWS leadership and the stakeholders within the UNCG community and the state of North Carolina, we have begun to develop several programs, initiatives and events to promote our collaborative mission.
By becoming a “friend” of PAGWSPA, you become a part of our mission by supporting programs initiatives and programs like:
- Graduate student research/scholarship support
- Faculty grants to support scholarship and research around girls, women, sport and physical activity.
- Access to our symposium series, “Becoming a better athlete…off the field.”
- The Emerging Scholars Program
- The Young Scholars Program
Also, as a friend of PAGWSPA, you will receive our bi-annual newsletter in December and May of each academic year, highlighting our semester work and future events.
