The Food Recovery Network donated 43 pounds of fresh yeast rolls prepared during the June 24-25, 2015 School Nutrition Association workshops to the Greensboro Urban Ministry. Special thanks to Burgin Ross in the Nutrition Department for facilitating this donation.
The Nutrition Department hosted School Nutrition Association workshops on June 24 and 25, 2015. Each year, UNCG is a participant in the Annual Meeting for the NC School Nutrition Association. As a part of the week long meeting with educational sessions, and an equipment/product exposition, 50-75 NC-SNA members come over to the campus for a hands on workshop for skill development. In the past, workshop topics have been pasta making, canning, jelly production, cheese making, etc. This year the workshop focused on production of a whole wheat yeast roll from scratch! See pictures from the workshops here. After the workshops, the yeast rolls were donated to the Greensboro Urban Ministry by Food Recovery Network here at UNCG.
Congratulations to the Food Recovery Network for winning “Outstanding New Student Group” at the 2015 UNCG Campus Activities and Programs Student Excellence Awards Banquet. Students from the Nutrition Department are involved in this great effort. The FRN unites students to fight waste and hunger by donating surplus, unsold food from UNCG to local people in need.
