The mission of LEARN is to advance the health, wellness, and quality of life for people who are or identify as LGBTQ+ through interdisciplinary research and scholarship, creative activity, education, practice, and community engagement.
In using LGBTQ+ to describe marginalized sexual and gender identities we note many umbrella terms like “queer” can carry varied meanings for different people, and often erase certain history and identities from inclusion. Our intentional use of “+” includes both those considered to fall outside of the heteronormative or cisgender identities, and also leaves the door open to the ever-evolving and expanding research in this area.
LEARN, inclusive of students, staff, and faculty and community partners, seeks to build strong and productive interdisciplinary networks across the university and community to promote scholarship, education, practice, and policy in support of this mission.
